1. Climb Mount Kigali

2. Explore Kimironko market

Kimironko is an authentic market that must not be missed when visiting Kigali! Get lost in this maze of colourful aisles, brimful of meat, fruit, vegetables, spices, clothes, hardware and electronics, which is also perfect for discovering Rwandan crafts and vibrant African fabrics, such as kitenge.

3. Visit the Genocide Memorial in Gisozi

Don’t have much time before your flight? Don’t miss the Gisozi memorial. The museum commemorates the genocide against the Tutsi, orchestrated by the primarily Hutu government in 1994, when in just three months, almost 800,000 Rwandans were killed. Permanent exhibitions, photo galleries and recordings document this large-scale massacre, which is still so little known. It’s a harrowing yet necessary experience to really understand the country’s history and perpetuate the memory of the lives lost.

4. Stroll around Nyamirambo neighbourhood

On a lighter note, set off to explore Kigali’s Muslim neighbourhood. A lively spot come day or night, Nyamirambo offers a wide range of small boutiques and typical restaurants where locals meet to enjoy traditional Rwandan food. What better way to finish off a motorcycle road trip in the land of a thousand hills than with a slice of local life!
