What made you want to set off on a motorcycle tour with Vintage Rides?

A friend first suggested a motorcycle tour with Vintage Rides to us. We were even more certain about it after meeting the team at the motorcycle fair in Lyon. We had already been to India and Ghislaine dreamed of going back, and as a biker at heart, I was really into the idea of exploring India by motorcycle. The Royal Enfield was a real discovery for us and Vintage Rides’ approach is what won us over. So much so, we have been on several Vintage Rides tours!

Why set off as a couple?

For us, the main perk of road tripping as a duo is sharing the experience. First, you get to share all the incredible feelings, especially for us, as we both love riding. What’s more, you are exploring new places together, so if one of you spots something interesting, you have someone to share it with. You both hold onto such fantastic memories. Then there’s the safety aspect. The pilot is responsible for the pillion’s safety, but they’re not the only one making an effort. The passenger needs to know how to lean with the rider or, when you run into trouble, has to endure a long, uncomfortable day of riding.
« One thing is certain, riding as a couple can be a little complicated and more about technique, but it is so worth it when you get the hang of it. »

What’s your overall impression of riding a Royal Enfield as a couple?

We really enjoy riding a Royal Enfield together. We take things slow and that works for us as we can do what we love: share the experience, explore, enjoy the landscapes and generally take our time. What’s more, the Royal Enfield is an easy, light and versatile bike and the saddle is very comfortable for the pillion. Personally, I really love riding it because it is so intuitive. I don’t have to worry about the weight or the centre of gravity, like with dual sport motorcycles, for example. And, it must be said that the large single-cylinder engine provides an extraordinary sense of freedom and boasts the perfect amount of power for a bike trip in Asia.

Do you have any anecdotes you’d like to share with us?

It would be difficult to choose just one! You step outside of your comfort zone when travelling, and that’s where the magic happens! Here’s a story that still makes us laugh: when we were in Bhutan, after taking a short break, a friend of ours left without his passenger and didn’t realise for a few miles! Needless to say, a few words were exchanged between them and plenty of laughs were had by the rest of the group.
