The overall organisation was excellent. the tour tougher that I imagined, many 10/11 hour days in the bike gear. I think most participants found it harder than they expected from listening to them.
Quite a big adventure. Thanks Mike B
This was the toughest trip I have ever done in my life, but glad I did it, however, the long hours riding on poor roads made it tiring and meant I didnt get to take in the views as much as I'd have liked. The weather was sometimes inclement and because the group was tired and wet, mistakes were made, increasing accident risks - not recommended in the locations we were at as it would be difficult to recover somebody to a hospital if necessary. It was a high risk trip
The trip was superb, Some was a little more challenging than expected (Sach!!) but I wouldn’t change anything.
It would have been nice if we had been given more info on what to expect accommodation wise and on the temperatures we would experience, especially when camping in tso
Moriri and Sarchu,
Perhaps consider using the Royal Enfield Himalayan for this trip as the terrain was a little rough for the old one. Also consider providing by email a comprehensive list of things people need to bring and why. If I was to do the trip again I would bring different kit.
There were times I felt unsafe and that the trip was too dangerous. I have never ridden offroad asides from the Vintage Rides trip I did 2 years ago in Mongolia. The Trans Himalayan was advertised as challenging, however I underestimated this and thought I would be okay. A more accurate description could perhaps read "offroad experience necessary" as I struggled between physically riding on very rough terrain, whilst simultaneously worrying about falling off cliffs and collisions wth other vehicles on the roads. One member in our group had a head on collision with a car and alsmost everyone fell off or had a crash at times. That being said this is not a complaint. By the end of the trip, I was much more confident and it actually improved my ability! The experience has only made me wish to do another Vintage Rides tour, but next time I will pick a more intermediate one! Thank you :)
I loved every bit of the trip, there was nothing to improve on and it was a great way to celebrate my 50th birthday. Thank you very much for making my trip one to remember, I'm still on a high from it (still putting videos of my trip on Instagram)
I was surprised by the road quality, I would have classified many of those passes as tracks, not roads. Also some of the suggested clothing etc. was imho not really very accurate/detailed enough. Perhaps it should be made clearer that the particular trip we went on is 'difficult' or something similar, in order to adjust peoples expectations a bit.
